Mumbai to get new convention centre

A new convention centre will be developed at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai.

The Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has begun work on exhibition-cum-convention centre, commercial complex and service apartments. The convention centre will be built on 82 lakh sq.ft, offering 35 office towers, each with a built-up area of around two lakh sq ft on an average.

STIC Travel Group announces contest

STIC Travel Group has announced ‘STIC-to-Travel’ contest for travel agents across India. A joint promotion with Amadeus, the contest is open to travel companies using the Amadeus Global Distribution System for bookings. The contest is centered around tickets issued by agents on airlines represented by STIC in India such as SriLankan Airlines, Mihin Lanka, Air China, Royal Brunei, Ukraine International and Ethiopian Airlines.

‘STIC-to-Travel’ will have multiple winners and one grand winner. The objective is to engage and reward agents and simultaneously highlight our airline partners in India.

Talking about the contest, Richa Goyal Sikri, director for group business development at STIC Travel Group says, “This is a landmark year for us as we complete four decades in the travel industry. While there are multiple events and activities being planned to mark this special occasion, we wanted to also involve the travel trade community who have been crucial to our success. The objective was to conduct a nation-wide contest that would be engaging and rewarding for agents. We hope its well received and look forward to active participation from our travel industry friends.”

TAFI to hold AGM in Ahmedabad

The Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) will hold its 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 7 August in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The AGM will be held at The Pride Hotel. An Extraordinary General Body Meeting will also take place at the same venue.

The Goa government continues to pursue beach shack operators to install camera surveillance.

Goa’s Tourism Minister, Dilip Parulekar said the government will ensure that CCTB cameras are installed at least in some prominent tourist spots in the state.

“The government is trying to get assistance from the central government to cover important tourist spots, including the main beaches for this purpose,” Parulekar was quoted s saying by the Times of India.
The Beach Shack Policy for 2012-13 stated that these traders install CCTV cameras in their temporary structures. Their opposition compelled the government to roll back the requirement under the clause.
