The Traders Hotel Yangon has been rebranded as a Shangri-La.

Following a renovation, the 484-room property has been rebadged as the Sule Shangri-La Yangon. The name reflects the hotel’s position on Sule Pagoda Road, which leads to the landmark pagoda in downtown Yangon.

“It’s exciting to see the luxury enhancements of the hotel and to introduce Shangri-La’s signature touches in such a desirable destination,” said Philip Couvaras, area general manager of Sule Shangri-La Yangon. “We look forward to continuously providing our guests with new and personal experiences, and to help immerse visitors into the local culture.”

The two-and-a-half-year renovation has updated the well-established city hotel, with a new range of in-room amenities and facilities.

The hotel’s 484 rooms now feature flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi and marble bathrooms, while on the top floor three suites have also been remodelled.

In terms of F&B, the hotel’s now includes the international Café Sule, Peacock Lounge, and the Summer Palace – Shangri-La’s signature Chinese restaurant, which has six private dining rooms. The colonial-style Gallery Bar has also been revamped and includes memorabilia and photographs from the early 1800s.

The hotel’s health club, which overlooks the outdoor pool, has been expanded to 850m² and now comes with fitness equipment, a sauna, steam and massage rooms. The hotel also offers three levels of meeting space.

The rebranding of the Traders marks the continuation of Shangri-La’s expansion in Yangon. The Hong Kong-based hotelier recently launched its Shangri-La Residences in the city, offering 240 apartment-style room and a range of residential facilities.
