We all know that Britain has a beautiful coastline and there are scores of beautiful destinations to enjoy from towns and cities to dramatic cliffs and beautiful beaches. The Welsh coastline is perhaps the finest of all with its incredible landscapes and beautiful coastline, warm and welcoming towns and seaside villages, incredible cities and fantastic culture. While most of us can’t devote the time to walking the whole stretch of the coastline there are plenty of great walks wherever you are. With that in mind we decided to look at a few of the best stretches you can explore during your holiday.

Chepstow to Cardiff

A very short stretch of the Welsh coastal path at only around 35 miles the stretch from Chepstow to Cardiff offers you a fantastic couple of days walk and the chance to see plenty of fantastic locations and sights. Starting in Chepstow gives you the chance to explore this beautiful medieval town with its beautiful castle which is one of the most well preserved in the country. From here you can walk along the fantastic Severn estuary and along the beautiful stretch of coastline that takes you to Cardiff. Along the way you can visit the stunning Newport estuary and then enjoy the dramatic views out towards the South West of England. This is one of the most fantastic areas of the coastline and easy to visit from many parts of the UK. We’d recommend a few days in Chepstow and Cardiff to enjoy all the sights and delights on offer.

Llanelli to Angle

Our second fantastic stretch across the south coast takes you from Llanelli to Angle and is about 70 miles walking along one of the best stretches of the coastal path. From Llanelli you can walk the 15 miles or so to St. Ishmael estuary with its beautiful bird life. On the way you can enjoy stunning cliffs and beautiful quiet coves. From St. Ishmael the walk around the estuary to Saundersfoot is fantastic with beautiful views and some great towns and villages to stop off at along the way. However, it is the last stretch which is undoubtedly the finest as you walk from Saundersfoot to Angle through the Pembrokeshire National Coast Park. This is one of the most beautiful stretches to enjoy and well worth a walk.

Llangelynin to Holyhead

Llangelynin to Holyhead is one of the best stretches of the Welsh coast and offers you a great chance to see some of Wales’ most beautiful countryside and coastline. The coastal path takes you across the edges of Snowdonia to the spike of Aberdaron offering incredible views across the Atlantic and to Holyhead to the North. It’s a beautiful dramatic stretch of the coastal path with beautiful high rocky cliffs and some fantastic beaches. The stretch running to Holyhead gives you the chance to enjoy the fantastic Anglesey with its castles, marshlands and beautiful sea and bird life.

Bangor to Chester

The 60 mile stretch of coastline running from Bangor to Chester offers some of the finest scenery and beautiful historical monuments in all of Wales. Bangor is a beautiful medieval town with its stunning church and fantastic streets. From here you can stroll along the coast to Conwy enjoying a stretch of the Snowdonia National Park and the beautiful cliffs along the coast. Conwy to Chester takes you to some beautiful Welsh villages and towns and the final stop in Chester gives you a fantastic end to your holiday with its castle and beautiful streets. Along the route there are castles, country homes and an infinite array of beautiful coastline to enjoy.
