Trichy airport has become the first of the 38 ‘Type A’ airports in India to have an automated Air Traffic Services (ATS) facility. This new facility is intended to bolster air traffic management to meet the growing demand at the airport. “The ATS automation will be completed in all other 37 Type A airports such as Madurai by August 2012,” V Somasunadram, Member of Air Navigation Services at Airport Authority of India was quoted as saying by IBN.
Trichy airport currently handles domestic as well as international flights to Colombo, Singapore, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.
