Turkey has ranked sixth in the World Tourism Organizations (UNWTO) list of the top destinations in the world, based on the number of inbound tourists the country saw in 2012.

Overall 31.78 million people visited Turkey last year, while the January – June figures for 2013 represented a year-on-year increase of 14.35% with 14.55 million people visiting within that time frame.

The number of Brits visiting Turkey was also strong, with 917,205 making their way to Turkey by the end of June 2013 – an increase of 2.44% year-on-year.

As part of the news, the London based Turkish Culture & Tourism Office announced the appointment of its two new directors Ali Selcuk Can and Dr Aysegul Gurgezoglu.
