Turkey had a strong presence at the recently concluded Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (GIBTM) in Abu Dhabi.
The heightened involvement from European players is supported by ‘Market Focus Spotlight’ networking sessions created at GIBTM especially for Europe and Asia highlights growing confidence in the MICE industry.
“Undoubtedly, the economic climate in Europe has been an issue for the industry for some time; however, people realize that in order to drive economies forward, meetings and events still need to take place,” Lois Hall, Reed Travel Exhibitions Director stated in a recent interview with Travel and Tour World.
Turkish Cultural and Information Attaché, Sedat Gönüllüoğlu said: “Having an annual capacity to host initially 90 million passengers come completion of its first phase projected to happen by 2017, the six-runway airport is essentially expected to not only dynamically impact the inbound meetings industry and enhance the role of Istanbul as a global hub for congress tourism but to support at large the Turkish tourism sector’s sustainability as well.”
