Turkish Airlines has finalised an order for five more Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The national carrier initially placed the order for up to 20 B777-300ERs back in December 2012, with 15 firm commitments and five options. It has now exercised these options, which are worth US$1.58 billion at list prices, taking the total deal value of the deal to US$6.3bn.
“Turkish Airlines has reinforced its position and energy with significant investments and growth figures as it continues to expand,” said Temel Kotil, the Istanbul-based carrier’s CEO. “We believe that the purchase of these new aircraft – an important step in meeting the need to expand our fleet- will further develop our existing relationship with Boeing.”
Turkish operates its Boeing 777-300ERs with 337 seats – 63 in business class and 246 in economy. The 20 new aircraft will add the airline’s existing fleet of 12 B777-300ERs. It also operates the Airbus A330-200, A330-300, A340-300 long-range aircraft.
