Turkish Airlines recorded net profits of TRY164 million (US$91.8m, GDP57.8) in the first half year of 2012 – 142% better than the same period last year.
The result followed a 36% jump in revenues, which hit GBP2.3bn.
The result marks a major turnaround for the Istanbul-based airline, which posted a GBP58.9m loss in the first quarter of the year, then a profit GBP99m in the second quarter. Half-year traffic jumped 20% to 18m passengers.
The airline’s sales have been helped by an increase in routes from the UK, with Turkey proving a popular holiday destination for Brits this year.
