Over half (56%) of holidaymakers say that the pandemic has made them nervous about booking holidays too far ahead but 42% are still happy to book holidays in advance, according to a new Opinium survey of 2000 UK holidaymakers, on behalf of iCarhireinsurance, a leading provider of car hire excess insurance.
More than half (52%) of holidaymakers say they will not book in advance, even if it means they could save money on the trip, and a quarter (26%) are worried that this reluctance to book does mean that they may not get the holiday they want. Nearly a quarter (22%) say that they will only book last minute at the moment, and 40% say they will be taking short breaks booked at the last minute for the foreseeable future. However, almost a third (30%) are ready to snap up a holiday deal, and are happy to book well in advance to do so, with 42% planning to book for 2021, but not bother with 2020.
Ernesto Suarez, founder and CEO of iCarhireinsurance.com said: “With all the recent disruption to travel, it’s easy to understand why so many people are nervous about booking their holidays in advance. However, for some the most important thing is going on the holiday they really want, and they are happy to book in advance to achieve this.”
