Thailand’s Onyx Hospitality Group has revealed plans to develop two new hotels on the site of the existing Amari Pattaya.

As part of a US$100 million plan to redevelop the site, the group will create a midscale Ozo hotel and a separate all-suite property on the site of the 44-year-old hotel. And finally, the hotel’s 20-storey Ocean Tower and surrounding facilities will undergo an extensive refurbishment.

Upon completion in early 2019, the expanded complex will comprise three hotels with a total of 752 keys, a new ballroom, plus a range of other facilities and landscaped gardens. A major new shopping mall, Terminal 21 Pattaya, is also being developed separately, five minutes’ walk from the hotel.

“Through the decades of the company’s ongoing growth and transformation, this iconic Amari location has stood the test of time,” said Douglas Martell, Onyx’s CEO. “As we approach the 45th anniversary of Amari Pattaya, it is with great excitement that we embark on plans to enhance the guest experience at this flagship property, whilst introducing a brand-new Ozo and an all-suites Amari property to accommodate the evolving needs of international travellers, regional visitors and local patrons.”

The new Ozo Pattaya (on the right hand side of the picture) will be a midscale hotel providing 406 rooms, casual dining outlets and several high-tech services such as a paperless front desk, interactive kiosks and plenty of connections for electronic devices.

Amari Pattaya Ocean Suites (pictured left) meanwhile, will be a new-build wing with 49 suites, including connecting units for families. All suites will have kitchens and balconies with sea views.

The refurbishment of the Amari Pattaya’s Ocean Tower will cover its rooms and suites, a new lobby and arrival area, the executive lounge and Asian street food-style restaurant.

The Pattaya project marks the latest part of a significant expansion for Onyx, with other new openings planned this year in China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Laos. In total, the company has a pipeline of 20 new properties set to launch in the coming years.
