The air transport agreement between UAE and Botswana was recently signed by HE Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE minister of economy and chairman of UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Botswana’s minister of transport and communications, Hon. Nonofo E Molefhi in the attendance of Omar bin Ghaleb, GCAA deputy director general.
The recently signed agreement covers unlimited number of flights, capacity and types of aircraft owned or leased by appointed carriers for passenger and cargo services by both countries. The agreement also allows the practice of the fifth freedom rights in terms of both intermediate and beyond rights, in addition to the third and fourth freedom rights, with no limits imposed on passenger and cargo services.
Al Mansoori reiterated the importance of the open skies policy adopted by the country, leading to a better economic position as a strategic destination and a global and regional trade hub, while being able to attract more international airlines.
“The agreement contributes to higher levels of cooperation and economic relations that link the UAE to the world through strategic ties that help explore trade opportunities and boost trade exchange. The UAE has signed air transport agreements with 146 countries around the world, including 104 open skies agreements,” added Al Mansoori.
Air transport agreements are governed by certain laws and freedom rights that regulate air transport among countries and regions. The UAE encourages countries to sign open skies agreements that should remove all restrictions imposed on international air transport traffic.
