The opening ceremony for London 2012 made us all incredibly proud of the heritage and culture that Britain brings to the world. Our history is something that not only brings much flag-waving but also brings millions of tourists to these shores every year.
And the Olympics will only serve to further focus the world’s attention on tourism in the UK as we compete for visitors on a world stage. Interestingly a recent survey by EasyJet placed London third in a list of must visit cities in the world.
We should not perhaps focus too much on London as it has guaranteed annual tourism and focus more on our regional cities and attractions. And one way to expose holidaymakers, both from overseas and at home, to our wider regions is through round -UK cruising.
The UK provides a perfect cruise region with a spectacular array of ports, great infrastructure and with history, culture, scenery, wildlife and diversity that sets us apart from many other destinations.
London 2012 is one of the best adverts we can have for tourism – and cruising could be a great beneficiary of this very special sporting event.
