VietJet Air touches down in Myanmar

VietJet Air has launched its first ever flights to Myanmar.
The Vietnamese low-cost carrier touched down at Yangon International Airport for the first time this week, marking the start of a new direct service from Ho Chi Minh City. Flights will operate five times a week.
“We can now bring travellers thousands of flying opportunities across Southeast Asia from Myanmar,” said Desmond Lin, VietJet’s director of business development. “Passengers will experience the full suite of VietJet’s high-quality services including comfortable seating on modern aircraft.”
The new service will now depart from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1025, arriving in Yangon at 1210. The return flight will then leave Myanmar’s largest city at 1300, arriving back in Ho Chi Minh City at 1545. VietJet will serve the route using its 180-seat, all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft.
VietJet has expanded rapidly since launching in late 2011. Adopting a model similar to its one-time intended partner, AirAsia, the low-cost carrier has developed a large domestic Vietnamese network and international links to Cambodia, China, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and now Myanmar, which it serves using a fleet of 27 Airbus single-aisle aircraft.
And with outstanding orders for more than 100 more aircraft, the airline is set for a prolonged period of growth in the years ahead.
