VietJet will offer Buddhist pilgrim charters to Bodh Gaya, in India’s Bihar state

VietJet Thailand has celebrated its first flights, with the launch of a new charter service to India.

Earlier this month, the low-cost carrier took off from Bangkok for the first time for a flight to Bodh Gaya, the holy town in northeast India’s Bihar state. Passengers included monks and pilgrims from Vietnam and Thailand who were travelling to the town for a Buddhist ceremony.

From the beginning of January 2015, VietJet Thailand will operate charter flights every Saturday between Bangkok and Bodh Gaya.

VietJet Thailand is a new joint venture between Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air and Thailand’s Kan Air.

As well as these initial charter services, the carrier plans to develop a network of low-cost routes across Thailand and the Asia Pacific region using a fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft based at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
