Virgin Australia launches American codeshare
Virgin Australia has begun selling tickets on Virgin America’s flights from Los Angeles to Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia, Portland, Seattle and Washington DC.
This is the first-ever codeshare agreement for California-based Virgin America and builds on a 2009 interline agreement with Virgin Australia.
“The United States is a very important market for Australia; it is the third most popular international destination for Australian visitors and our fourth biggest source of overseas visitors to Australia,” said Virgin Australia Group Executive of Alliances, Network & Yield, Merren McArthur. “We are delighted to offer Virgin Australia guests access to Virgin America services in the United States and to offer them frequent flyer recognition throughout the journey.”
Under the codeshare, passengers will check-in once and receive all their boarding passes. Domestic to international connections at LAX are within the same terminal (Terminal 3), so guests traveling between the US and Australia do not have to re-clear security or re-check baggage, although customs clearance is still required for travellers coming from Australia to the US.
