Virgin Australia will set up a new cabin crew base in Adelaide.

The airline currently has approximately 180 employees based in South Australia, working at Adelaide airport in customer facing and ground crew roles. But it will now expand its Adelaide operations, adding a new cabin crew base to its existing flight attendant facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

“We have more than 40 flights arriving and departing each day at Adelaide airport, reaching every mainland state capital and tourist destinations such as the Gold Coast and Denpasar,” said Virgin Australia’s chief customer officer, Mark Hassell.

“Having a cabin crew base in Adelaide will create significant benefits for our business, giving us greater flexibility in scheduling flights and crew. These routes have previously been serviced by cabin crew from other states but this decision means there will be jobs open to South Australian residents, who can live and train locally.

“This decision is a reflection of our growing network, and the confidence we have in the South Australian market,” he added.

Applications for positions in the new Adelaide cabin crew base started this week, with the first employees expected to start training in November.
