Funding for VisitBritain is to be cut 5% while VisitEngland’s has remained intact.
The reduction is part of a 7% drop in funds for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport but will still provide both agencies with more than had been previously speculated.
VisitBritain will still hold a budget of GBP20 million for 2015/16, with both agencies pleased with the outcome.
“This is a good result for VisitBritain and clear evidence of ministers’ commitment to the tourism industry. This government understands the importance of tourism as one of the country’s leading export industries and a powerful engine of job creation,” said VisitBritain’s chairman Christopher Rodrigues.
Lady Cobham, chairman of VisitEngland said the funds will help its to support local areas; manage tourism quality; release campaigns and provide research amongst other areas.
“This is good news for English tourism. We are pleased and reassured by this clear commitment from Government to tourism in England,” she said. “Our role is to grow tourism in England. We never lose sight of this goal and we will continue to work closely with Government and the private sector to ensure continued support for the industry. We are committed to working closely with DCMS to further grow this important industry and will continue to make the case for tourism in-line with Government’s targets.”
