Wanda Hotels & Resorts has launched its new flagship hotel in Shanghai.
Following a grand opening ceremony, the new Wanda Reign on the Bund welcomed its first guests on 18 June 2016. Described as an “ultra-luxury hotel”, it becomes only the third Wanda Reign-branded hotel in the world, following existing properties in Chengdu and Wuhan. And like the Chengdu property, Wanda Reign on the Bund becomes a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection.
Located on Shanghai’s famous Bund, overlooking the Huangpu River, the new hotel offers 193 rooms and suites, all of which feature heated floors, free Wi-Fi and home entertainment systems, and views of the courtyard garden, Bund or river.
There are four restaurants; the international Cafe Reign, HE Japanese Restaurant, River Drunk Chinese seafood restaurant, and Marc, which is located on the top floor and doubles as a nightclub. Other facilities include an indoor pool with large windows overlooking the city and extensive conference and banqueting space, including a grand ballroom with an 82m² LED screen.
“Shanghai is an international cosmopolitan city that attracts a lot of global attention,” said Boris Blobel, the new hotel’s GM and Wanda’s managing director of East China.
“The launch of Wanda Reign on the Bund marks the group’s official debut in Shanghai, and it serves as an important gateway to the international market. With Wanda Reign’s exclusively designed facilities and personalized services, we believe that Wanda Reign on the Bund is poised to become the leader in Shanghai’s luxury hotel industry, setting new standards for ultra-luxury hotels.”
While the new hotel becomes only the third Wanda Reign hotel in the world, it joins a larger collection of more than 50 Wanda hotels across China, including luxury Wanda Vista properties and the upscale Wanda Realm and Wanda Jin brands.
And the company is on a major expansion drive, with a target of more than 160 hotels globally by the end of 2020, including Wanda Vista Hotels in London, Chicago, Los Angeles, Sydney and Gold Coast.
