Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ Westin brand has partnered a fitness app to create a new in-room workout programme for its guests.

The tie-up with FitStar by Fitbit will see all Westin guests offered a complimentary 30-day trial of the FitStar Personal Trainer app. And Westin has worked with FitStar by Fitbit to co-develop a series of fitness sessions that guests can do in their rooms.

The ‘Stay Fit with Westin’ sessions, available now via the FitStar app, feature a series of exercises designed for small spaces, such as elbow planks, floor bridges, and alternating knee raises.

And as a further part of the partnership, all Westin hotel general managers are now wearing Fitbit activity trackers.

“Since Westin established its well-being position five years ago, we have seen the focus on wellness accelerating with new technology and the growing popularity of wearables, like those from Fitbit,” said Brian Povinelli, Westin’s global brand leader. “This partnership with FitStar by Fitbit offers our guests another meaningful way to maintain their exercise routines when and where it works for them.”

Mike Maser, co-founder of FitStar by Fitbit, added; “FitStar is approachable because no matter what fitness level a user is – beginner or expert – it adapts to their ability and builds personalised sessions that progress with them, so it’s achievable. It’s easy to get off track while on the road, so we believe our partnership with Westin will help travellers around the world stick to their health and fitness goals.”

Westin has ramped up the focus on its fitness offerings in recent years. The brand now employs nearly 200 fitness concierges, who host group runs for guests, and the Westin has invested in modern equipment at its fitness centres. The company has also formed a global partnership with New Balance, offering guests the use of training shoes and clothing during their stay.
