Canadian low-cost carrier WestJet has operated its first scheduled transatlantic flight from Toronto to Dublin.
The new service operates with a stop in St John’s Newfoundland and with fares from US$199 was sold out within 24 hours on flights from 15 June to 5 October.
This prompted the airline to extend the service until 25 October.
“The response on both sides of the Atlantic has been nothing short of phenomenal. This service is about bringing our low fares and remarkable, people-driven guest experience to new routes and new markets including, for the first time, Europe,” said CEO Gregg Saretsky.
“It’s very exciting to think that we are about to take our guests across the Atlantic Ocean for the very first time. This represents a very significant strategic step in the growth of WestJet. As we’ve expanded our reach, grown our fleet and added new products to broaden our appeal to different travel segments, it’s always been a dream of many WestJetters to one day be able to fly our guests to Europe,” he added.
