What makes employers think you are better suited
Have you been daydreaming of travelling to distant places away from your comfort zone? For people with a love of new experiences, a career in travel is rewarding. But do you know what your employers are looking for? Would you fit the bill?
Beyond the numerous degrees and courses that are available now, Travel Daily speaks to the employers to find out what are the key qualities or soft skills that make you apt for these jobs. Here is the checklist:
Language prowess
Tom Jenkins, CEO of European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) feels the end of freedom of movement will hit ETOA members hard. Many businesses in the travel and hospitality rely on a pool of flexible motivated workers from the EU who can speak languages other than English. So, get set and upgrade your language skills.
Patience is a virtue
As travel agents help simplifying the trip planning process for their clients, you need to research fares and schedules, book flights, tours, and hotels, and even advise clients on how to make the most of their time away. Hence, patience is a key characteristic the travel agencies are looking for in people.
Travel and learn
Hostel booking site Hostelworld says gaining worldly experience might actually make you more employable in the industry. Work abroad and travel abroad look good on your CV. A study by Hostelworld also suggests that people who travel tend to be more entrepreneurial.
