Britannia Hotels has been named as the worst hotel chain in the UK by Which? based on cleanliness and customer service.
The consumer organisation’s rating of 36 chains, based on 8, 267 stays, saw Britannia receive one star for cleanliness, room fixtures and value for money. Its customer service rating was at 36%, with Which? readers saying rooms where ‘shabby’ and ‘run down’.
Travelodge was also at the bottom of the table, with a customer service rating of 50% and a low rating for its breakfasts, despite recently upgrading its rooms with a new look.
Feeling happier about the results will be Q Hotels, which was named top of class with a rating of 78%. Radisson Blu Edwardian was in second position (77%), followed by Premier Inn (76%) and Sofitel (74%).
The results show a mixture of budget, midscale and luxury hotels across the entire table.
“Our survey has revealed a king-sized bed gap between the best and worst hotel chains in the UK and shows you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a decent overnight stay,” said Which? editor Richard Headland.
