The World Halal Travel Summit & Exhibition (WHTS) has been recognised as a pioneer in the global halal travel market by Salam Standard, the innovative online hotel reference tool dedicated to Muslim travellers.
The event, organised by UAE-based Cacti Events, was named winner of the Best Event category, in the inaugural Salam Standard awards programme, which acknowledges hotel groups, destinations, airports and events that excel in the Muslim-friendly travel arena.
WHTS was one of eight Salam Standard winners selected by a panel of hand-picked judges with halal travel market expertise.
“All of our winners stand out as pioneers in the global halal travel market, offering products and services that cater to the specific faith-based needs of Muslim travellers,” said Salam Standard founder Faeez Fadhlillah.
“We applaud the efforts of World Halal Travel Summit, which like Salam Standard, strives to provide Muslims with Muslim-friendly travel options that make them feel at home.”
Nominees for the Salam Standard awards were judged by a panel of Muslim travel experts against a number of criteria, such as the availability and range of Muslim services and facilities provided, as well as the promotion of the halal travel concept locally and internationally.
Judges considered the WHTS a trailblazer in the halal travel sector, providing a global platform dedicated to the rise of Muslim travellers.
“The event is one of the biggest gatherings of travel agencies and NTOs, with the single aim to promote the concept of Muslim travel globally,” confirmed Fadhlillah.
Andy Buchanan, executive organising committee director, International Travel Week Abu Dhabi, said: “It is a true honour for us to have been recognised as the best in our industry and we do hope to continue and expand this year’s summit’s outreach to further provide platforms for meetings and discussions particularly to the emerging sectors of the halal travel industry.”
Hot on the heels of 2015’s WHTS success, and in response to growing demand for a platform that addresses the development of the halal, medical and shopping tourism segments, International Travel Week Abu Dhabi (ITW-Abu Dhabi), will be hosted from 21-25 November, 2016, at ADNEC Abu Dhabi. The five-day summit is expected to attract more than 6,000 travel professionals.
