A ground-breaking ceremony was held recently to mark the start of construction on a new tower in the Melbourne Docklands area, which will house the city’s new Parkroyal hotel.
The new landmark project will see a 37-storey tower rise on the corner of Harbour Esplanade and Dudley Street, completing the northern gateway to the Docklands area.
Spanning the first 18 floors of the tower, Parkroyal Melbourne will include 266 rooms, a restaurant and lounge, gymnasium, swimming pool and meeting rooms. Sitting above the Parkroyal will be 331 separately accessed residential apartments. The hotel and tower are scheduled to launch in the second half of 2016
“The first Parkroyal Hotel opened in… Victoria in 1962. As the state of Victoria is the birthplace of the Parkroyal brand, Melbourne holds special significance to us,” said Craig Bond, Pan Pacific’s area general manager for Oceania.
“Adding diversity to our existing airport hotel in Melbourne and strengthening our local market presence, Parkroyal Melbourne and its prime location in Docklands makes it the perfect local companion for business and leisure travellers within the city.”
The new hotel will join a portfolio of four Parkroyal hotels in Australia, including existing locations at Melbourne Airport, Sydney’s Darling Harbour, Parramatta and Perth.
