Construction work has commenced on Seabourn‘s new luxury cruise ship, Seabourn Encore.

A keel-laying ceremony was held this week at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, where the new all-suite ship will be built.

Set to launch in late 2016, the 41,700-gross tonne Seabourn Encore will be able to carry just 600 passengers. All suites will feature private verandas.

“Set to debut as the most modern and acclaimed ship in the ultra-luxury segment, the keel-laying of Seabourn Encore represents another pivotal stage in the evolution of small-ship cruising,” said Seabourn’s president, Richard Meadows. “This is an important milestone and we look forward to revealing further progress and highlights of Seabourn Encore in the months ahead.”

Seabourn Encore is the first of two new luxury cruise ships that Fincantieri will build for Seabourn over the next three years, with the Seabourn Ovation scheduled to launch in 2018.

These vessels will join the company’s existing fleet of three ships: Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest.
