Seabourn has celebrated the start of construction work on its new luxury cruise ship, Seabourn Ovation.

A traditional steel-cutting ceremony was held at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy on Tuesday (7 June 2016), attended by Seabourn’s president Richard Meadows. The new vessel is scheduled to enter the Seabourn fleet in spring 2018.

“The cutting of steel is a significant milestone in the creation of Seabourn Ovation, as well as the continuing evolution of the Seabourn fleet and the ultra-luxury cruise segment,” noted Meadows. “We are excited to witness this important step and look forward to seeing the ship come together.

“Seabourn Ovation will be matched only by its sister ship, Seabourn Encore, as the most beautiful ultra-luxury vessel ever built,” he added.

Seabourn Ovation will expand the company Odyssey-class, which was first introduced in 2009. Like its predecessors, Seabourn Ovation will be a 40,350-tonne vessel able to carry approximately 600 passengers at double occupancy, and every suite will have a private veranda.

Seabourn Ovation will become the second new Odyssey-class ship delivered to the company in the space of 12 months, following the arrival of the Seabourn Encore in summer 2017.
