Wyndham Hotel Group will soon open a new luxury hotel at Halong Bay, the UNESCO World Heritage site in northern Vietnam.

Scheduled to welcome its first guests in June 2016, the new Wyndham Legend Halong Bay will become the area’s first international-branded five-star hotel.

Managed by Kosmopolitan Hospitality, the hotel group led by Best Western’s former Asian head Glenn de Souza, the new property will offer 217 rooms and suites, five restaurants, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, kids’ club and spa facilities.

It will also serve as a hub for the MICE market, with more than 1,055m² of function space including four event halls and two smaller meeting rooms. The largest space, the grand ballroom, will be able to accommodate up to 1,280 people.

“Tourism is on the rise in Vietnam and Halong Bay is gaining more attention from tourists who are interested in seeking out the town’s natural beauty and local culture. This is a well-timed opportunity for us, as the first global hotel chain to enter the market with an upscale property to meet the growing tourist demands for a premier hospitality product. I am certain that Wyndham Legend Halong will be a shining star in this tranquil coastal town,” said Barry Robinson, Wyndham’s president & managing director for Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim.

In a recent interview with Travel Daily, Robinson stated his ambition to expand Wyndham’s core brands in several key Southeast Asian markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. “We’re on the lookout for opportunities to grow [in Southeast Asia]. There are a lot of regional opportunities with Wyndham,” he said.

Wyndham Hotel Group currently operates 60 hotels in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim, under its Wyndham, Ramada, Days Inn, Tryp by Wyndham and Microtel brands.

Glenn de Souza, CEO of Kosmopolitan Hospitality, commented; “Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is a distinguished brand with a wonderful upmarket concept that will appeal to discerning travellers. We are confident of delivering the brand’s world renowned… service promise to our guests and establishing Wyndham Legend Halong as a leading icon for hospitality in Vietnam.”
