Xiamen Airlines has set up a new operating base in Beijing.
The fast-expanding Chinese airline currently bases seven aircraft at Beijing Capital International Airport, providing 21 daily flights on 10 routes to cities including Fuzhou, Xiamen, Changsha, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Hailar and Qingdao.
But it now plans to significantly increase this Beijing-based fleet to 40 aircraft by 2020, with the aim of handling five million passengers a year.
This will include addition of more flights to Fuzhou, Xiamen and Hangzhou, plus the launch of brand new routes to major Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Kunming.
And by October 2015, when Xiamen Airlines receives the last of its six Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the airline plans to commence new international services linking Beijing with Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, North America, Europe and Australia.
A member of the SkyTeam Alliance, Xiamen Airlines currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 107 aircraft, including one Dreamliner.
The Beijing base becomes the airline’s sixth unit in China, following Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Changsha and Nanchang.
