Xiamen Airlines is planning to launch direct flights to Los Angeles.
The Chinese carrier has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch four weekly services from Xiamen’s Gaoqi International Airport, in southeast China’s Fujian province, to Los Angeles International Airport.
If approved, the route could commence as early as June 2017, and Xiamen Airlines will deploy either a Boeing 787-8 or B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on the route.
The new service will mark the first direct connection between Fujian province and California, and Xiamen Airlines will become the sixth Chinese airline flying to LA, following Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines, plus Sichuan Airlines, which plans to start flying between Chengdu and LA in June 2016.
Los Angeles will likely become Xiamen Airlines’ second destination in the US; the carrier is also planning launch a daily flight to New York from Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, from January 2017.
