Eight in 10 British travel agents are optimistic about their business prospects going into 2015, in a new index released by Carnival Cruise Lines.
A nationwide poll found 83% of agents feel positive about the travel industry with 30% very positive, while less than 1% felt negatively.
More than three quarters (77%) of agent said they hit their sales targets in the second and third quarters of this year and more are expecting to hit Q4 figures too (84%, up from 79% last year).
All-inclusive sales are the most confident among agents (67%) although 42% said they expect strong cruise bookings next year and 34% are confident numbers will go up.
Around half (52%) said there was heavy discounting but it had improved, while 18% think there is not too much discounting in the cruise sector.
Adolfo Perez, managing director for Carnival Cruise Lines UK said: “It is really great to hear cruise bookings are playing such a pivotal role in UK agent’s success this year. We are pleased to see that families account a large portion of bookings in cruise, as the industry looks to reach out to the younger generations.”
