Travel agents have been encouraged to capitalise on selling breaks to London in, around and during the Olympics as interest in the tournament picks up.
Superbreak has encouraged travel agents to ride on the pre-Olympic hype to help boost London short break sales. With the Olympic Torch Relay currently drumming up interest and the Jubilee coming up, the tour operator believes sales can be driven to capitalise on the events. Trips to London are typically booked four weeks in advance, suggesting there is a month to get the best availability and prices.
“We don’t want agents to be confused about selling London this summer – there are still some great opportunities to be had. London is buzzing with activity and in the weeks running up to the Olympics this will only intensify,” said Jane Atkins, sales director at Superbreak. “Agents need to remember that the Olympics are in fact only for two weeks and there is a great selling period between now and the opening day on 27 July”.
Meanwhile, Leisure Pass Group believes there is also scope to sell breaks in June and July in anticipation. With all the improvements made to London in recent months and the momentum building, the attraction pass group is confident for summer sales of its London Pass, particularly as its pass offers priority entry at some attractions.
“After a strong start to the year we have high hopes for a successful summer. We know agents across the UK are doing huge amounts of city-break business around the Jubilee and Games, but there is also a big opportunity for that June and July period in between,” said Peter Muttitt, sales manager at Leisure Pass.
“As well as offering agents great earning potential, the London Pass is a pretty easy sell to those on short breaks. It offers priority entrance at many of the featured attractions, which is going to be a great benefit this year,” he added.
