London hotel prices to drop 35%

Nightly rates at London hotels will drop by 35% now that the Olympics has left town, according to trivago’s latest index.
Prices in the capital will fall to £130 a night from £201 this week, £20 cheaper than August last year. In contrast prices in Edinburgh have soared 46% in the last month as its festival season continues, although rates across the UK have generally increased compared to 2011.
Further afield in Europe the Scandinavian cities of Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen are the only cities to have seen significant price increases of 19%, 19% and 10% respectively compared to last month. Despite its popularity during the summer, prices in Rome and Istanbul have dropped 14% (to £88) and 16% (to £93) respectively in August compared to July, while Paris and Brussels are also said to be cheaper than last month.
