Virgin Atlantic boosts Cancun services

Virgin Atlantic has announced it is to bump up its services to Cancun following high demand on the route.
The airline has carried 17,000 passengers on the route and is expected to carry more than 75,000 during the first year of the service’s operation.
The Gatwick route currently runs twice a week with a 95% load factor and another weekly flight will be added from 4 April 2013.
“Cancun is performing extremely well for us and in fact, is one of our most successful launches ever. Transatlantic routes have always been at the core of Virgin Atlantic’s business and we are delighted to be able to show our commitment to Mexico and add the extra service,” said Edmond Rose, director of commercial and revenue planning at Virgin Atlantic.
Tourism to Mexico saw a record 23 million international visitors last year, up 2% on 2010. The number of British travellers heading to the destination increase 11.6% in 2011 compared to 2010.
