Air Canada asks passengers to name new airline

Air Canada has taken a new approach to branding, by asking its passengers to name its new low-cost carrier.

The national carrier has launched a Facebook contest to find a name for the new budget leisure airline that will begin service in 2013. Both passengers and travel agents are invited to visit Air Canada’s Facebook page between now and 21 October 2012 to submit their suggestions.

“This is an exciting new venture for us and our customers, so we wanted to hear from them, our partners in the travel industry and our employees,” said Michael Friisdahl, President & CEO of Air Canada’s Leisure Group. He added that he wanted ideas to be “creative” and to “resonate with Canadians.”

Air Canada will hold a separate contest for its employees.

Last week, Air Canada unveiled plans to form a new Leisure Group, combining its tour operator business, Air Canada Vacations, with its new low-cost carrier. The LCC will commence services in June 2013, operating to leisure destinations in Europe and the Caribbean.
