UK operator Cruise and Maritime Voyages will commence departures from Bristol on 28 February 2013 – the first line to do so for 20 years.
The firm’s vessel, Discovery, will be operating nine departures each year from the port sailing past Wales and up to Norway with calls at Stavanger, Bergen, Alesund, Andalsnes, Narvik, Tromso and Alta.
Mike Hall, head of marketing at CMV said: “Discovery will make her way from Bristol cruising for 15 nights to the Land of the Northern Lights. It will be her maiden voyage under the CMV logo. Everyone connected with our company is delighted to be the first company to bring cruising back to Bristol.”
Bristol’s history in UK shipping was cemented by one of the UK’s most famous engineers – Isambard Kingdom Brunel – who was a major part of the industrial revolution. In 1843 Brunel helped build the SS Great Britain – a screw propeller powered ship made of iron.
