LOT Polish Airlines has deployed its Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Warsaw-Chicago route.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport was the first scheduled destination for LOT’s Dreamliner back in January 2013, but the launch was cut short due to the aircraft’s global grounding. The route relaunched on Wednesday (5 June 2013) however, when LOT became the first carrier to operate a Dreamliner flight from Chicago.

LOT’s first B787 flight from Warsaw touched down at O’Hare International at 1520, and was greeted by a water cannon salute. The first Dreamliner flight from Chicago departed at 1725. The flights were previously operated using B767s.

“Chicago will receive daily LOT Dreamliner service and on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and there is a second Dreamliner flight scheduled from Chicago to Warsaw later in the evening,” said Tomasz Dakowski, LOT’s director of sales. “We offer the two flights on some days in the summer because Chicago has historically been our number one US destination. The support of the largest Polish population outside of Poland in this region has especially contributed in making our flights a success.”

Poland’s national carrier was the first European airline to operate the B787, and operates the aircraft in a three-class configuration with 18 seats in business class, 21 in premium economy and 213 in economy.

On 1 June, it launched Dreamliner flights between Warsaw and New York JFK airport, and now plans to add services to Toronto on 7 June. Beijing has also been touted as a future destination for the airline’s B787s.
