Garuda Indonesia is planning to increase the number of flights it offers to and from Singapore.

From 19 July, the Indonesian national carrier will launch a new direct service between Singapore and Surabaya, in East Java. The route will be served four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

In addition, Garuda is planning to expand its Singapore-Bali and Singapore-Jakarta services. The Bali route frequency will be increased to four times per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) from 19 July while a ninth daily flight between Singapore and Jakarta will commence on 18 August.

Following the launch of these extra services, Garuda will operate more than 80 weekly flights between Singapore and five Indonesian destinations – Bali, Jakarta, Makassar, Balikpapan and Surabaya.

“Singapore in particular is a key growth market for Garuda Indonesia. We are constantly looking to improve our flight offerings to provide Singapore travellers better connectivity into Indonesia,” said Nicodemus Lampe, Garuda’s vice president for Asia. “With these new services, we aim to increase our passenger appeal and are confident that we will be able to capture a larger share of the market.”

Meanwhile Garuda has also celebrated the delivery of its first Boeing 777-300ER. The airline’s president director, Emirsyah Satar, visited Boeing’s factory in Seattle this week for a ceremony to mark the delivery. Garuda has ordered 10 B777s with the first four expected to be delivered this year. It will use the new wide-body aircraft to relaunch direct flights to Europe.
