Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has signed a new agreement that will see it manage a new luxury hotel in Hangzhou.
Expected to open in 2017, the Fairmont Hangzhou will feature 300 rooms, five restaurants, a health club and swimming pool, plus the brand’s signature Willow Stream Spa and more than 3,000m² of conference and banqueting space. The project will also include 180 Fairmont-branded serviced residences.
“We continue to expand our footprint in China and are excited to be adding a hotel in a major domestic market like Hangzhou,” said Jennifer Fox, president of Fairmont. “It’s a city that is renowned for its culture, history and beauty, as well as a destination that attracts both domestic and international travellers. Furthermore, with rail and airport expansion projects underway, and visitor numbers expected to rise, it’s an opportune time to be entering the market.”
Fairmont Hangzhou will be situated at the top the city’s tallest building, forming part of the Hangzhou Qianjiang Century CBD – a new development housing meeting and convention venues, office towers, residences and commercial space.
Fairmont Hangzhou will mark the brand’s entry into the city, which lies in eastern China’s Zhejiang province. Currently Fairmont operates three Chinese, properties – the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, Fairmont Beijing and Fairmont Yangcheng Lake, in Jiangsu province. But the brand’s expansion will continue with the opening of the Fairmont Nanjing this year, Fairmont Chengdu and Residences in 2014 and Fairmont Taiyuan 2016.
