The arts and culture industry in Dubai is set to receive a shot in the arm with the announcement of the Opera District by Emaar. The emirate is set to carve a niche with Dubai Opera, a 2,000-seat multi-format venue for opera, theatre, concerts, art exhibitions, orchestra, film, sports events and seasonal programmes. This is Emaar’s new development in Downtown Dubai.
The district will look at promoting arts, culture and the events scene of Dubai by ensuring global exchange and promoting local talent. The District will also feature luxury hotels, serviced apartments, retail plaza, waterfront promenades, recreational spaces and parks. The Dubai Opera will feature state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.
Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties, said: “The Opera District will develop into a vibrant cultural community and events destination in the city, which will encourage our talented local artists and also promote global cultural exchange. The Opera District will also energise Dubai’s events and tourism sectors.”
The Dubai Opera will be styled on traditional sailing vessels of the Arabian Gulf, the classic wooden dhows that are synonymous with the world-famous Dubai Creek.
