Spring Airlines embarks on Japanese expansion

Spring Airlines will kick off a major expansion of its services to Japan this summer.
The Chinese low-cost carrier will launch a new international service connecting Wuhan with Osaka on 18 July 2014. The new route will operate four times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, using a 180-seat all-economy Airbus A320 aircraft.
The new Wuhan-Osaka service will be followed by new routes to the Japanese city from Tianjin and Dalian. The airline already operates a daily services connecting Osaka with Shanghai.
These new routes form part of a major Japanese expansion plan for Spring, which is planning to add services to Tokyo and Nagoya in future, with the ultimate goal of flying to Japan from 20 Chinese cities by the end of 2019.
The launch of Osaka service will also mark Spring’s re-entry into Wuhan, having exited the central Chinese city in 2009 due to competition from Wuhan’s expanding high-speed rail network. Currently AirAsia is the only low-cost carrier in Wuhan, providing daily services to Bangkok.
