Air Canada’s first flights into Heathrow Terminal 2 touched down today.

Flight AC856 from Toronto landed with 290 customers at 7.04am, followed by another 10 arrivals throughout the day.

The Canadian carrier is the second Star Alliance member to start flying from the recently-opened terminal following United Airlines starting to earlier this month.

To mark the flights a 700-square metre Maple Leaf Lounge has been opened next to the departing stands and gates.

The airport lounge has several Canadian features including chairs made from Calgary-based Birchwood; maple panelling and accents of marble quarried in Ontario and a bar with Molson beer on tap.

Facilities include a live cooking station with a chef; spa-like shower area and a quiet zone.

“The new terminal will enhance our customers’ travel experience with improved services and facilities as well as our own Maple Leaf Lounge showcasing world-class Canadian products,” said Robert Atkinson, general manager UK, Ireland and Northern Europe at Air Canada.
