Jet Airways is expanding its operations in Sri Lanka with the launch of a second daily flight between Mumbai and Colombo.
Set to commence on 5 November 2014, the new service will depart Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 1805, arriving in Colombo at 2035. The return flight will then depart the Sri Lankan capital at 2135, getting back into Mumbai at 0015.
The new service will be operated using a single-aisle Boeing 737 aircraft.
“Jet Airways is delighted to introduce an evening service to Colombo following increased demand from the trade and tourist traffic,” said Gaurang Shetty, Jet’s senior vice president of commercial.
“This flight will enhance seamless connectivity to Europe, North America, Gulf and Domestic India along with our codeshare and interline partners. We are confident this direct service to and from Colombo will prove immensely popular with our guests,” he added.
And the Colombo launch is just the start of Jet’s expansion plans. Chairman Naresh Goyal said in his company’s annual report, which was cited by the Economic Times, that the carrier also plans to launch more frequencies to Doha and Dubai, as well as a new flight from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City, via Bangkok. This will also commence on 5 November and will mark Jet’s entry into the Vietnam market.
