Low-cost carrier IndiGo has maintained its leading position in the Indian domestic air market, in terms of market share.
The airline carried 31.6% of the country’s total domestic traffic in June 2014, according to the latest data from the country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This result marked a slight decline from May however, when IndiGo handled 31.7% of the Indian domestic market.
Full-service carrier Jet Airways was the second biggest Indian carrier last month, with a 19.6% share of the market, followed by SpiceJet.
National carrier Air India only commanded an 18.5% share of the domestic market in June, making it the country’s fourth biggest airline.
Newcomer AirAsia India took a fractional 0.2% share of the market in its first month of operations, but this is expected to grow rapidly in the coming months and years.
GoAir posted the highest average cabin load factors in June. The airline managed to fill 81.5% of its available seats during the month, slightly ahead of SpiceJet’s 81.4%. Air India had a domestic load factor of 78.6% but Jet Airways filled just 69.5% of its seats.
