French hotel chain Accor has announced a development in the famous Trocadero centre on Piccadilly Circus.

An ibis Styles hotel will be built within the building with 583 rooms. It is due to open in 2017.

The famous Trocadero site was originally a restaurant when it opened in 1896, later closing in 1965. It reopened in 1984 as an exhibition and entertainment space and was well known for its Segaworld amusement arcade in the 1990s, before eventually closing in February 2014.

Under the agreement with the site’s owners Criterion Capital Group Accor will also open an 80-room MGallery-branded hotel in 2016.

Thomas Dubaere, managing director of Accor UK & Ireland said: “We are delighted with these two new locations in the heart of London, further advancing our ambitious UK expansion plans. The hotels will take inspiration from the buzz and excitement of Soho – the most vibrant neighbourhood in the world – and will bring a new lease of life to these historically significant London sites.”
