Jetstar has confirmed plans to launch the first ever direct scheduled flights between the Gold Coast and Wuhan, the capital of central China’s Hubei province.
Commencing on 29 September 2015, the Australian low-cost carrier will serve the route twice a week using its 335-seat Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Jetstar said the route will be driven by inbound travel, with China’s Dalian Wanda Group selling flight and holiday packages to the Gold Coast for Chinese travellers.
“We are proud to connect the Gold Coast and China with direct flights, which is such an important tourism market for Australia,” said Jetstar’s CEO for Australia & New Zealand, David Hall.
“This new service opens up a direct link between southeast Queensland and one of the largest travel markets in the world, delivering about 70,000 seats between China and the Gold Coast each year.”
Jetstar’s Gold Coast-Wuhan route will operate every Tuesday and Saturday, with a flight time of approximately 9.5 hours.
