An agreement has been signed that will lead to the launch of the first two Accor hotels on the Indonesian island of Bintan.

Malaysia’s Landmarks Bhd has formed a new joint venture with Singapore’s ML Hotel Investments Pte Ltd to develop, own and operate Mercure and ibis hotels at the Treasure Bay Bintan development – a major new resort complex currently under construction on the island.

Once completed in 2017, the 10-storey Mercure will be the island’s tallest building, offering 182 rooms, while the ibis Budget hotel will feature 162 rooms.

“With this JV and other partnerships with international hospitality brands in the pipeline, we are poised to position Treasure Bay Bintan as Southeast Asia’s leading leisure destination,” said Fong Chee Khuen, chief operating officer of Landmarks Bhd.

“We are confident that Phase One of Treasure Bay Bintan will serve as a catalyst in creating lasting real estate value and augmenting Bintan’s tourism offering, by bringing in unique leisure and entertainment concepts not found anywhere else in the region.”

Situated at Bintan’s Crystal Lagoon, both hotels will offer views of Treasure Bay Bintan’s waterfront, which will house a range of water sports and recreational activities. The Mercure will also feature a rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking the area, plus a 35-metre lap pool, meeting rooms, a gym and a wellness centre, while the ibis Budget will offer meeting facilities and a breakfast lounge.

Outside the hotels, the development’s Chill Cove area will feature a range of restaurants, bars and clubs, plus spas and retail outlets.

Under the terms of the joint venture, PT Bintan Hotel Utama (PTBHU), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Landmarks Bhd, will own 40% of the hotels, while ML Hotel Investments will own the remain 60%.
