UK tourism arrivals to the Maldives rose 8 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2015, equating to 25,158 visitors compared to 23,297 in 2014.
Announcing the result, tourism body Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) confirmed the Indian Ocean destination hoped to further capitalise on this growth, with a number of new hotel developments and the introduction of a new luxury seaplane transfer from Male to Dhonakulhi island planned this year.
Mohamed Adam, deputy managing director of MMPRC said: “We’re very pleased to see an increase in visitors from the UK and that the Maldives is still one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations. With our tourism offering continuing to expand and the destination celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Independence this year in July, we are confident the Maldives will continue to perform well during 2015 and look forward to welcoming more visitors from the UK.”
