AirAsia India suffered a loss for the second quarter of 2015.
The fledgling low-cost carrier, which first launched in summer 2014, reported an operating loss of INR413 million (US$6.3m) for the three months to 30 June 2014, with total revenues of INR1.15 billion. The airline carried approximately 300,000 passengers during this period.
AirAsia‘s group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said he is confident of the future of his Indian venture.
“We are small but we are a popular airline in India and we are growing fast. Loads are consistently high and in 2Q15 AAI recorded a load factor of 83% with 0.3 million passengers carried.”
Moving forward, AirAsia said it will continue with its Indian expansion plans, deploying more Airbus A320 aircraft to its main bases at Bengaluru and Delhi airports.
“[We] will work towards keeping its cost under check, with increased focus on ancillary revenue,” AirAsia added.
