Destinations in the Asia Pacific region have seen their international visitor arrivals increase by almost 100 million in the last five years, a new report has revealed.
Releasing its Annual Tourism Monitor 2015 this week, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) reported that arrivals to the region have jumped from almost 455 million in 2010 to more than 552 million in 2014. And that growth has continued in 2015, with the region’s destinations adding a further 12.5m visitors in the first half of this year.
The study, which measures the performance of 45 Asia Pacific destinations, including those in the Americas, found that China, Hong Kong and the USA were the region’s top three markets in 2014.
For the first half of 2015, the region is seeing a year-on-year growth rate of 5.4%, with the Americas (+6.8%) leading the way, ahead of the Pacific region (6.3%) and Asia (5.0%).
PATA noted however, that the downturn of the Russian outbound market is impacting destinations in the Asia Pacific region, with Thailand, Turkey and China being particularly affected.
