United Airlines celebrates 10 years in India

United Airlines is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its inaugural service to India.
The US carrier, under the former Continental Airlines brand, commenced services to India in November 2005 with the launch of Boeing 777 flights from New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport to Delhi.
United, which merged with Continental in 2010, now operates daily flights from Newark to both Delhi and Mumbai.
In the past decade, the airline has carried over three million passengers on more than 12,700 flights between the US and India.
To mark the anniversary, Dave Hilfman, United’s senior vice president of worldwide sales, hosted a gala reception for travel industry partners and corporate customers at Delhi’s Imperial Hotel on 20 November.
“All of us at United are very proud to reach this milestone and to have played such an important role in building links between India and the United States,” said Hilfman. “Ten years ago we were the first airline to offer scheduled non-stop service between the two countries, and today we remain the only US carrier serving India.
“We thank all the customers who have flown with us over the past decade, our travel industry partners, and of course our sales, marketing and operations teams here in India. We look forward to continued success in the future.”
The airline’s Delhi and Mumbai flights are both operated using 267-seat B777-200 aircraft, which feature flat-bed seats in business class and United’s new premium economy concept.
